     'Que la niña confiada
no sabe por qué temer
y es paloma inmaculada
que envía con su mirada
el alma de la mujer.'

Jose Gautier Benítez
"El primer llanto y el primer amor"

That this soul of woman
not knowing what to fear
except this soul of a girl
Inside her bitten, ghost
tresses, blue black
Gypsy hair tumbles
Curling to red lips
painted, smiling.

Someone sent her a living dream
inside a poem written inside a bottle
made of glass. She dreamt the dream
every night, at times this girl woman,
carnal, feeling words, mud, river,
leaves her prints upon the earth
when she runs.

Water runs the sky immaculate
dreams clouds. The girl dove
becomes woman jaguar.
The jaguar becomes a dove.

Wings in a chance encounter
With the river

That this flight
to the palm tree inclined
to the city's walls
as escape.

The softest lips curl
The human body
Curves into its sadness.

Our animals dream in silence inside us
Our rivers slope into our seas
Our first cries are silent
From our earnest eyes.
